Physicians and staff from both MHHS and Rehab Group participated - providing sports physicals, ensuring that area student athletes are ready to safely participate in the upcoming fall sports. Physicians and staff that conducted the physicals were: Mark Harrell, MD; Ed Fillipone, MD; Mark Ingram, PA; Mark Dalle-Ave, MD; Cheryl Slemp, RN; Drew Slemp, FP-C,NREMTP; Scott Thomas; Paula Tipton; Tom Thompson, MD; Bill Martin, DO. Tom Thompson, MD, and Bill Martin, DO, are the programs team physicians and are instrumental in the delivery of the sports medicine programs for local area schools. The one-day clinic collected a $10 fee per physical to help benefit the area schools' athletic programs. One thousand five hundred dollars was raised and donated to Hamblen County Schools to purchase needed medical supplies such as first aid kits, athletic tape, and braces. These supplies will be used in the care of local student athletes. "Thanks to this program, students can be taken better care of sooner. In case of a minor accident, we will have the medical supplies on hand to deal with the situation, thanks to MHHS and Rehab Group," said Mike Reed, Principal at Morristown West High School. "We appreciate the money raised by the Morristown-Hamblen Healthcare System and Rehab Group. The supplies this money will provide will be used in the care of athletic injuries," said Gary Johnson, Principal at Morristown East High School. "Rehab Group established these programs several years ago and is proud to continue to provide this service to the athletic population of the Lakeway region, as well as both Morristown high schools and all four middle schools," said Matt Barnes, ATC/L, CSCS. As a result of its commitment to sports medicine, Rehab Group has been voted Sports Medicine Clinic of the Year in the state of Tennessee. Jackie Murray of MHHS said, "We at MHHS recognize the importance of athletics in our community and are proud to participate in this program."
