Morristown-Hamblen Healthcare System’s Junior Volunteer Program
Morristown-Hamblen Healthcare System was pleased to host twenty-seven active junior volunteers over the summer. The volunteers were able to experience a wide range of exposure to tasks, responsibilities and different components of a hospital. They served in both clinical and non-clinical areas.
The Junior Volunteers participate in a structured day to day routine to obtain at least twelve hours a week or a total of forty hours throughout the summer. After completing the hospital orientation, the MHHS Volunteers were placed in different departments throughout the hospital. Volunteers had the opportunity to work alongside professionals in the industry, providing experience and the chance to be mentored. Students selected to participate in the volunteer program represented high schools throughout the Lakeway area.
A recognition and awards program was held recently for the junior volunteers, parents, and hospital staff participating in the program. Participants received certificates and recognition from hospital staff.
Volunteer work has become a very important component of the Tennessee Scholars Program and the Tennessee Achieves Scholarship Program, as well as an expectation on many college applications and scholarship programs.
Applications for the 2013 Summer Junior Volunteer Program will be considered starting in March 2013. If you have an interest or for more information, please contact Sharon Hayes, Coordinator of Volunteer Services at (423) 492-5803.
