MHHS Celebrates the Art of Movement
The Art of Movement
Dance Your Heart Out, sponsored by Morristown-Hamblen Healthcare System
is an annual celebration of the thrill of movement, of exercise disguised as art or play.
"The root of the event is about trying to raise awareness for movement to promote a healthy heart," said Pam Snyder, MHHS director of marketing and physician liaison. "The whole day is about bringing our different types of movement … It’s an art form. It takes talent and teaches those children at an early age how important movement is and being involved in something."
In the concourse between JC Penney and Carmike Cinemas, multiple dance schools put on exhibitions.
They were joined by cloggers, a demonstration from Summit ATA Martial Arts Studio, Zumba fitness and the Lakeway Twirlers.
Each group got between 15 minutes and half an hour to perform. The event lasted just more than 4 hours.
"We had performers there from 3 or 4-years-old up to one man who was in his 70s," Snyder said.
In addition, hospital representatives were on hand to perform blood sugar, body fat, blood pressure and pulse-oxygen saturation tests for the public.
Snyder said the mall is a perfect location for such an event.
"We’ve always had it at the mall. They’ve always been really, really great with us," she said. "It does bring a lot of people out to the mall. It’s good for the performers because they have another stage and we get to reach people with random health screenings.
The dance groups performing were Elizabeth Williams’ School of Dance, Gold Edition Cloggers, Rose Center Dancers, Diamond Dance Studio, Trinity, Morristown School of Dance Arts, Lakeway Twirlers, Downtown Dance Theater and Kickin’ It Country.
